God who are you? Study.

Today I am joining the ladies over At the Well for our Bible study time on God and who He is. This is an exciting journey into learning more and new things about the Great I Am and how God works in our lives. Please feel free to join with us in this study.
So today Jennifer Jernigan from By His Grace has posed two discussion questions for us all to think about;
  • What does it mean to you to know that you are precious in God's sight?
  • Can you think of a time in your life when you've experienced, first hand, the LORD'S faithfulness?

For the first question I want to turn to Psalm 139; v 13 -16.

13. For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, 16 your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. (NIV).

I find it hard to believe that I am precious in God's sight. I don't think I deserve it because of my sin and wickedness. And yet look at the verses above! God knew me even before my own mother did! Becoming a mother myself helped me understand just how God loves us and views His children as precious. My love for Jacob and Emma is totally unconditional. They misbehave, disobey me, and I am often not pleased with what they do and yet I love them with all of my being. I accept them as they are, try to train and discipline them because I love them, and still treasure these little people.

I am precious in God's sight in a similar way. I am humbled by my God who treasures me. He loves me warts and all! Yet because he loves me and treasures me He also seeks to train me, mould me, discipline me and know all of the days that lie ahead!

I am going to think about the second discussion question over the next day or so otherwise this is going to be one looong post.

Feel free to join in the discussion and link up over At the Well and join our study also.

  2. Thanks for sharing your heart on this one Collette. Yes, the Lord's love is completely mind boggling to me too!!! Though I know unconditional love as a mother, I may never be able to wrap my mind & heart around God's ability to sacrifice His only Son for me. That is just not something I would be willing to do for someone else. Yet He did it for you and me. AMAZING!

I pray the Lord would bless your time with Him this week.

  4. Collette,

I think for most of us women it is hard to think of ourselves as precious because we are often so critical of every flaw we possess. If only we could see ourselves the way God does, it would completely change how we act and how we would live our lives for the better.

  5. It is amazing to think about how much God loves us. I love the verse about Him knitting us together in our mother's womb. That is such an intimate word picture. Thank you for reminding us of it today!

I saw your comment on another blog & realized I had not visited in a while. I hope all is well for you and your family!

  6. Yes, so true! We love our children so much, and can you imagine that God loves us even more than that! It is hard to comprehend sometimes, isn't it?

  7. God knitted us together in our mother's wombs exactly the way He desired us to be. How wonderful to know that He loves ALL of me even when/if I don't love myself.

I also can't help but think that because I belong to His royal family, when Yahweh looks at me, He sees the blood of His Son covering ALL my sins...now that is a beautiful sight to behold!!!

Praying for you this week as you seek to know Yahweh more through His Word. If you have questions or comments you'd like to share, please email them to me by Friday, Feb. 19th at jenifer@byhisgraceministry.com

  8. Blessings Collette, Isn't this a wonderful study that Jenifer is sharing with us? How very precious your thoughts and comparison to your beautiful love for your children. Love that you included Psalm 139! I'm so glad that because He loves us as you wrote, He disciplines us in love, to mold us and train us(written through the heart of a mother).
God is so faithful in so many ways.

Thanks for your visit! EnJOY a wonderful week.

  10. Psalm 139 is one of my favorite passages of scripture! It is hard to believe sometimes that God really does love us "warts and all", isn't it? Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
