Be an efficient homeWORKER!

Hello and welcome to our online discussion with the wonderful "At the Well" ladies!! This is my second time here and I am very excited about all the discussions we are yet to have!

Today Lisa Metzger has written a wonderful article on how to "be an efficient homeWORKER".

When I think of being a homeWORKER I immediately think of Titus 2 and Proverbs 31 like so many of you I am sure! However, how many of us actually think we measure up to these ideal descriptions of a woman's role in the home?

I certainly fail on many fronts! I agree with Lisa that when we read these passages we should apply them to our daily lives and ask God for his help in achieving them. I do think that we must be cautious not to put unnecessary pressure on ourselves to achieve them though. We are by no means perfect and have not failed if we don't tick all the boxes according to the above passages.

"being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you
will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."
Phillipians 1:6 (NIV).

I strive to be a Godly woman each day and want to have an orderly home. I recognise that God wants me to stay at home, look after the kids, my husband and my home. I don't particularly have verses I think of when I am lacking motivation to keep my home in order. Although I quite often think of this acronym: J - Jesus

O - Others

Y - Yourself

This reminds me that I am being a homeworker for Jesus and my family and it also urges me to spend more time with God.

One of the tools God has given me to use to create the kind of home he wants me to have. I love my dishwasher and wouldn't be without it! We never had one until a few years ago and it gets used every day. This actually means I get extra time to spend with the kiddos and hubby! I load it up throughout the day and then switch it on after dinner and no longer need to spend all my time doing dishes. Instead Colin and I spend the evening with the kids before they go to bed!

Glory to God for this provision! I have been thinking that I should get the kids to help out more around the house as well. We are called to "train" our children and part of this should be learning chores and responsibilities.

So now I have a plan and with God's grace I can work towards becoming the kind of godly woman he wants me to be!

  1. Great post, Collette! Isn't it funny- here in America every new home comes complete with a dishwasher. I think we can take them for granted! It is when mine broke down a few years ago that I realized HOW MUCH I love it!!! :)

So glad you pointed out Philippians 1:6! We can put so much pressure on ourselves. And, because our chores/homekeeping is never "finished", we (I) can become discouraged. I want to be encouraged by these two passages of scripture (Proverbs 31 and Titus2) and aspire to them, but I personally have to be careful as well that I don't see myself as a failure when I am human and not SUPERMOM! :)

    Your blog is ADORABLE!

    Blessings,
    Tracy

  2. I went several years without a dishwasher and feel exactly the way you do about it! It is a blessing I don't take for granted. I love the "JOY" acronym!
