Graduation concert and huffy child!

Well what a busy morning. It was Jacob's last ever day at nursery. He had a great time and Emma and I watched his graduation concert! Imagine a group of 4/5 year olds graduating from nursery!

The kids chose their favourite songs to sing to all us parents and one of them was called "Superstar", a Christmas one about how Jesus can be your superstar! I was surprised they sung this at Christmas last year and today, because a lot of schools and nurseries in the UK can be very secular these days and not mention Jesus. They even did a nativity at Christmas with the proper story and not one adapted to fit these modern times.

Emma enjoyed the singing but was a bit cross when all the boys and girls received certificates and lovely new storybooks as parting gifts. She shouted "I want a book!" and folded her arms in a massive huff!

I think it was all a bit too much for her as she is now napping and Jacob is playing in the garden.

I love these verses from Matthew:

15But when the chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful things he did and the children shouting in the temple area, "Hosanna to the Son of David," they were indignant.

16"Do you hear what these children are saying?" they asked him.
"Yes," replied Jesus, "have you never read,
" 'From the lips of children and infants
you have ordained praise
?"

I have always felt that my kids understand and see Jesus our Lord in such a different light to me. I often think they are closer to him because of the child like way in which they see things.

" 2He called a little child and had him stand among them. 3And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.4Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven."

Jesus wants us to become child like in our faith and who better to teach us how to do this than our own children. I see the way Jacob is curious and accepting of what I teach him about Jesus. He asks questions and probes further but he accepts things as they are and is eager and keen to learn more and more. I pray that I can be more like this!

  2. I teach at a Christian preschool, so I know just how precious this ceremony was for you! Kids this age are sponges and anything you can teach them now about our Lord and Saviour will stick!

I am surprised and thrilled also that your son's class did a nativity program at Christmas time and sang a song about Jesus at his graduation! Every year at the elementary school that my boys went to, they would have a Christmas sing-a-long right before dismissal for Christmas break. Parents were invited to attend. I went every year and was surprised when they sang Silent Night one year. However, I noticed that after that one time they never sang it again. It saddened me.

    Have a beautiful weekend!

  3. Your kids are so cute. I am sure she wasn't very happy not to get a book. Poor thing. I love watching my little ones perform. So sweet.

  4. Wow - we were blogging on the same topic today, weren't we? Kids seem to be in tune to God, and I think that its because they aren't so micro-focused on the busyness of life, like we adults are.

So glad you had a nice program at school! And nice to meet you.

  5. Hi again! Just in response to your comment on my blog about Michael J. I heard some reporters saying we may see an outpouring of grief and memorials that we haven't seen since Princess Diana died.

I do admit that when she died I did cry, but I think it was hormones because I had given birth about 4 days before she passed. All I could think was that she had two boys and I had two boys, and now her sons were going to grow up without their mother. That made me very sad for them. I did watch her funeral in the wee hours of the morning over here, but again, I had a newborn and was up anyway! I did feel the amount of coverage concerning her death was unfair in regards to the fact that Mother Teresa died a few days later and you hardly saw anything about her.

When will we ever get it right as to who we should really be worshipping?!

    Blessings and Hugs, Leslie
