Why do I blog again?

My friend Amy at Girlfriends Get Real wrote an excellent post about why she blogs and how sometimes the computer gets in the way of God. This has prompted me to ponder on my motives for blogging and who am I actually doing it for.

The main reason I set up this blog was, like many people, to journal my reflections on God and all that he is doing in my life and walk with Jesus. I also wanted to look at my day and pick out those special God given moments with the children.

My days, as most mums, are just so so busy that I barely get or make time to read my Bible, pray or think about how God has spoken to me that day.

Since beginning this journey of blogging I have read my Bible regularly and met lovely fellow Christian women who are so wise and encouraging to me.

I am praying more than ever, learning more than ever about being a Godly woman, and being humbled more by the amazing way God works in so many peoples lives across the world.

It is important that we constantly remind ourselves why we do things. Are we doing them for ourselves or our Lord and Saviour? At times I have forgotten this and got caught up in the excitement of blogging and getting more readers. I need to come before God each day and remember that it's all for Him and His Glory. Each day I ask God in prayer what He would have me write about. The start of all this is, of course, reading my Bible first and foremost.

Like most of those mums out there, quiet time is really not practical in the morning. I can't get up early to be with the Lord because the kids are up mega early. I still attempt to read at least a passage or Psalm in the morning while they watch some kid's TV! It isn't exactly quiet time but at least I am doing it! Also they see me with my Bible and that is just a great encouragement for them.

Here are some verses which remind me to be humble and what this is all about.

"And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all
in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God
the Father through him. "
Colossians 3:17 NIV.

"If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength
God provides, so that in all things God may be
praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory
and the power for ever and ever. Amen."
1 Peter 4:11 NIV.

"When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with
humility comes wisdom".
Proverbs 11:2 NIV

"Who can say,"I have kept my heart pure; I am clean
and without sin"? "
Proverbs 20:9 NIV.

  1. I too often stop to examine why I blog....and whether I am doing it for the Lord, or myself. Thank you for your humble reminder this morning, and a chance for me to reexamine why I am doing this. Have a great and blessed day!

  4. I struggle with getting in my quiet time too. I think it's easier in the school year, than the summer when we're all together 24/7.

Good reasons, and you're doing a great job.

  5. This was beautiful! I have to say i need this reminder more than I care to admit. One thing that a speaker at a moms group said that stuck with me is quiet time doesn't necessarily mean that it has to be quiet it just means you need to get into the word. You can be doing other things and have kids around you just make sure you get in the word sometime. That really made me think because before I heard this I would give up if I didn't have actual quiet time and end up not in the word. Anyways, just thought I would share that. Have a blessed day, I love your blog,, you always write wonderful things

  6. Sweet mom, thanks for splashing me today. I just began this blog adventure, but it can take away from my family if I allow it. My hubby is an early bird, spending 2 or 3 hours a morning with the Lord. I tend to wake up with the snuggles of my 4 and 7 year old crawling into bed with me. But then, as our morning unfolds, we do treasure time, snuggle up on the couch and read from our favorite Bibles and devotionals together. It's kid version, but God still speaks to this mommy heart. THen, as they play at the little park, I spend my prayer time for our day. My quiet time, after everyone is tucked in bed and it's time for tea and Jesus.

I'm hopping off right now, got some snuggle discipleship to do.

    Mommy hugs,
    Sarah Dawn

  8. Collette,

What a great reflection question to pose! I love how God uses the blogging community to bring us all together much like a church does and unites us into one!

Through the sharing of life stories, inspirations being divinely led, and love being poured forth in heart felt posts, the Holy Spirit touches us all and encourages us to keep writing.

We may never fully know where our blogging will lead lives but one day we will, until that day I continue to write.

    Love and Hugs ~ Kat

  9. Yea, I had to get my priorities straight, too! Sometimes I would MAKE TIME for the blog, and forget to make time for reading God's Word.

We moms juggle sooo much, huh?

  10. Isn't it amazing how we can find time to blog, watch t.v., read an interesting book, or have fun with a friend.....yet somehow we struggle to make time to read the Bible?

God will help us balance our priorities. We only need to ask!

  11. A lot of truth here and evaluation. Why are we blogging? I pray to show the evidence of Christ, to Glorify GOD, and to lavish love and grace onto one another.

    Blessings,
    Yolanda

  12. Great post!!

When I first started blogging, my intention was it to be like an "online journal" for myself, and also for my out of state family to read! At first they didn't read it, but now some of them do. I see it as our "family newsletter" and love to share different areas of my family's life.

  13. Collette,
I had also read Amy's post and liked it.

    This is very good.
Colossians 3:17 has always been one of my favorite verses and 1 Peter 4:11 is the verse that I put as the description of my new blog about my life as a teacher.

At first, my husband didn't like the idea of a blog, because of computer insecurity, but then, once he read my blog and said he enjoyed reading it. Most days, I am wishing that I could get more comments. . .I do want it to be a ministry to others for the Lord.
I am so glad that YOU do blog. Thank you for sharing!
