Are you ready?

Last night I was looking at these verses in my Bible. They speak for themselves I think.

29 “Immediately after the anguish of those days,
the sun will be darkened, the moon will give no light, the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.

30 And then at last, the sign that the Son of Man is coming will appear in the heavens, and there will be deep mourning among all the peoples of the earth. And they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.[
h] 31 And he will send out his angels with the mighty blast of a trumpet, and they will gather his chosen ones from all over the world[i]—from the farthest ends of the earth and heaven.

Matthew 24:29-31 NLT.

34 “Watch out! Don’t let your hearts be dulled by carousing and drunkenness, and by the worries of this life. Don’t let that day catch you unaware, 35 like a trap. For that day will come upon everyone living on the earth. 36 Keep alert at all times. And pray that you might be strong enough to escape these coming horrors and stand before the Son of Man.”

Luke 21:34-36 NLT.

These are daunting verses aren't they? At the weekend I spent my time preparing for a busy week ahead with Jacob starting school, our Toddler group starting back at Church and a new routine. I don't know why these verses came to me last night but they did! So ARE WE READY? I mean ready for the return of our Saviour, whenever He has planned that to be. Am I watchful, mindful, prepared, right with God?

Can I say that I am a believer in our Lord Jesus Christ? Have I committed my life fully to following Him? Denying myself and dying to my old ways. Leading a new life in Christ. Do I even pray about being prepared?

Jacob has said to me during our discussions, "I want to go to heaven", and I just think this is so lovely. At the tender age of nearly 5, he realises that heaven is our TRUE home if we believe in Jesus and have confessed our sins to him.

I am asking myself all of these questions today and focusing on the bigger picture. Trying not to get caught up in stresses and worries of the everyday world. They are not as important as what Jesus has revealed to us in the verses above.

So today, sorry if this all comes across as a little confused. These are my thoughts in progress! I want to encourage you today to think about these things, if you haven't already. I am glad God has put these verses in my mind. It's not a light hearted topic but these verses are a great reminder of keeping watchful and ensuring we keep to a narrow path.

  3. I can say I have had the same types of questions in recent day. I think God is causing us to ask ourselves these questions.
Thank you for your honesty. God bless you sis, Laurie (And, I am praying that we will be ready- watchful, waiting, and passionately pursuing our Lord!)

  4. This is a thought provoking post! My favorite part - they will gather his chosen ones from all over the world. If we are Christians we are His chosen ones. It's great to feel loved like that. I am watching for His return, come, Lord Jesus, come!

  5. It is a good thing to ponder that question! I think even Christians can go about our lives and not think about the return of our Savior in real time.

Thank you for placing this thought in our hearts today.

  7. Collette,

This is certainly something we as all Christians should be aware of at all times. We definitely don't want to be doing things when we should be preparing for Christ and making sure we are living our lives in accordance to what He has called us to do.

  8. Colette, please pray for me as I am trying to be a witness to a long lost brother. And I mean that very LITERALLY... LONG LOST "BROTHER". More details on my blog on Wednesday. =0)

  10. Great post Collette! I have a patient that was born in 1915. She is a Christian and we were discussing life the other day. We talk about our Lord frequently and being prepared. She says that she would like to live for the Rapture, but is unsure if she will. She said that she definitely believes I will see it in my lifetime. I do too! My husband and I were talking Sunday about being prepared. We were visiting about how we spend our time and that we need to devote more time to seek God. I firmly believe I will see the Rapture. He is no so sure. I can't wait for that day when all these people that have been persecuting our Lord, shaming Him, jumping at the chance to tear Him down, and living in sin will finally see that they were wrong. That's not the heart God would want me to have, so can I just confess that right now? I should be hurting over the lost, not rejoicing in the horror that will come their way. Sorry about that. I've been convicted.
The iron ons came from a craft store called Hobby Lobby. It's pretty big over here. They are a Christian based company. They stay closed on Sundays and play Christian music in their stores. You can check them out at HobbyLobby.com.
