Making your Home sing Monday.

Well it's Monday again already! That means it is time to join my friend, Nan, over at Moms the Word for Making your Home Sing Monday.

Today I am going to make my home sing by thinking about the following verses;

19My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, 20for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.
James 1: 19 - 20. 9 NIV.

I don't know about you, but I am the opposite of these verses more often than I like! I am slow to listen, quick to speak and even quicker to become angry!

Yesterday I was with the kids from 6am, through 2 Church services and creche, then bath and bedtime. My patience was wearing thin by teatime as the kids began to act up. Colin was getting annoyed with the kids and I was getting annoyed at Colin for feeling annoyed!!! (crazy!). I snapped at Colin and the kids continued to play up. It was not a peaceful teatime at all!

I am far too quick to open my mouth and let my belly rumble. It is easy to maintain peace in the home when the kids are behaving, you have had a good day and all in the world is good. It is harder to maintain when small ones are misbehaving, and you have had a stressful day. It is during these times and days that I certainly should be asking God for his help more. It is all too easy to get caught up in the situation, over react and then feel crumby for doing so. Maybe stopping and praying then and there would be more constructive!!

So today I am going to try and make my home sing by thinking about these verses...... in fact maybe I will print them off and put them somewhere prominent! I will stop and pray when it all gets too much, which it will at some point of the day, guaranteed!

So how are you going to Make your Home Sing today?

  5. Oh Collette....I thought you were my friend...how could you stab me like this and make me own up to the person I truly am??????---seriously my friend, I am so thankful that God chose to use you this morning to remind me that--especially with teenagers--being slow to speak and even slower to anger must be a second by second practice for me until I master it!
    Love you!!

  6. Yea, it is sooooo hard to be slow to anger and slow to speak sometimes. And sometimes in my listening, I hear what I wanna hear and not what was intended.

Thank you for this verse today! It's a great reminder to us all.

  7. I love this verse that you posted here and like all the other comments, I too am so guilty of being fast to anger and quick to snap off a response.

I am trying to take a breather and just relax a bit more and then deal with things when I have a chance to think about what I really want to accomplish not just what I want to say.

    Love and Hugs ~ Kat

  8. Love that verse...I've been struggling to maintain my equilibrium as my children test me. Yelling doesn't help and as soon as I do it, their chaos becomes my chaos. Thanks for the reminder today.

  9. Yup you just described me. Slow to listen and quick to talk. When my kids were little, I was constantly struggling with being quick to anger and asking the Lord to put His hand over my mouth (I still do that, lol!).

God does answer, as we know He does. Getting into His word is crucial, and applying it, as you did. He will do the rest!

  10. You know sometimes we can be so hard on ourselves and our kids. maybe the schedule is too much for you guys? Usually a little more home time and relaxation instead of countless activities helps. Hugs.

This is a really great post. That is one of my favorite passages to keep reminding myself, too. Thank you for all of your comments!!!

  12. This is a verse that I need to commit to memory, and while I am at it I think I will make the kiddos learn it too.

Unfortunately it just is all to easy to let your frustration out.

  13. Love this story! So true. I am right there with you sister! I have been busy preparing for the family to arrive tomorrow. I have neglected my blog the past couple of weeks. I have to know-exactly what is tea time? Do yall have a moment together sipping tea and visiting? My cousin married a woman from England. Family from "across the pond" visit often. They bring this wonderful tea. I have no idea what it is called. It is light brown and looks to be creamy, like someone who has really doctored up their coffee. It contains a lot of caffeine and is served warm. We stayed up all night once drinking that tea and playing games. I wish I had a cup right now!
